about

Emilie Wapnick and Rena Hundert became friends as roommates in college when they discovered their mutual love for music.

Years later, after an inspirational jaunt at Laser Quest in Montreal, tea was sipped as the two reminisced about their long-lost dream of writing music together. Emilie paused briefly before saying, “What if we just take a month and write an album?” Rena wondered how this could happen, given the fact that they both resided on different coasts. “We could do it online. . .” continued Emilie. A light bulb went off in Rena’s head before exclaiming, “Or. . . We could go to LA and do it there!”

After the tea was finished, their mission was clear and Tip of the Hat was born.

In February of 2013 Rena flew down to Portland and the two drove down the West coast together. They wrote and recorded happily for two nights in a Yurt and for a month on a street in Echo Park called LAVETA TERRACE.

The two have now decided to make this an annual event and will be writing and recording an album every February.
